‘SAIM FEST’ or ‘South Asian Indie Music Festival’ is a two-day music festival with two indie artists on each day to showcase and celebrate south asian talent. The goal was to build an engaging community on the foundation of shared love for indie music.

The hand drawn logotype and tiger illustration was inspired by the hand painted compositions on trucks/lorry that run on the roads of south asian countries- the bright colours, geometrical compositions/layouts, paintings of animals used for storytelling and symbolism.

I did some 2D/3D animation during my undergrad which helped a lot when I was learning motion design to make
this video.

I really enjoy the staticky visuals of a frame-by-frame animation and I thought it would work very well by playing with the analog/ DIY process of making a zine.

I’ve also made some zines of my own, here’s one of them.

Typeface Design, Experimental
Guided by Scott Vander Zee
2025

This was my first time learning Robofont and so like any designer I was very eager to learn how to make my own typeface.

Initially I wanted to make a Sans Serif Fantasy font because I didn’t see a lot of that and since the fantasy genre is so vast- as an anchor  point, I decided to use ‘alice in wonderland’ by C.S. Lewis as my concept for this experimental typeface.

Although, by the time I was kind of done with the typeface, to me it felt uniquely ALICE. Expressing the whimsical, wishy washy, unpredictable, magical, emotional, volatile nature of alice in this far-from-perfect working font.

This was my favourite story growing up and I wished I fell into a rabbit hole.

The brief was to pick a state of mind/mood and create journal covers around them. I wanted to show how it feels to not know yourself. Using quotes from Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Scarlet Letter to further push that feeling.

I was playing with the idea of trying on different masks and still not feeling like home in your body.

We were pushed to use ourselves as the subject of these covers for this project. It’s not perfect, but I had so much fun working on it. I made a haphazard set in my tiny room to take pictures of myself.

This is my favourite undergrad project because I enjoyed the whole process so much because of how much experimentation was involved. (I also tried Dali’s method of tapping into his unconscious, during the
ideation phase.
